A prominent name in Marathi cinema production, Uttung Thakur completed his film studies in Los Angeles, USA before relocating to India. His first production venture was the acclaimed comedy-drama Balak-Palak (2012), which dealt with the pertinent issue of sex education.

Following this, Uttung bankrolled the Mahesh Limaye directorial Yellow (2014), which revolved around the story of a special needs child named Gauri Gadgil. At the 61st National Film Awards, Yellow (2014) won the Special Jury Award besides earning Special Mention for its lead actors. His 2019 release includes Dokyala Shot, directed by Shivkumar Parthasarathy.
