Filmmaker and screenwriter Peer Moideen, known popularly as V.Z. Durai, made his directorial debut with the musical drama Mugavaree (2000), which starred Ajith Kumar and Jyothika in the lead roles. The movie was a critical and commercial success, and Durai has since directed a handful of Tamil films, notable among which are the Vikram starrer Kadha Sadugudu, the gangster thriller Thotti Jaya, the crime thriller 6 Melugu Vathigal and the romantic thriller Yemaali (2018). His 2019 release includes Iruttu.
