Vinayak Chittar stands out as an exceptionally mature contemporary exponent of sitar music. Vinayak has had most of his musical training from Pandit Arvind Parikh, the senior most disciple of Ustad Vilayat Khan, the
architect of the modern sitar. An earlier, but significant stint under the late Pandit P G Parab has also shaped Vinayaks creative outlook significantly. While the above influences have chiseled Vinayak into a technical virtuoso on the sitar, his musical goals and values continue to be inspired by the khayal vocal music of the Jaipur and Agra styles. A dedicated teacher, Vinayak believes in sharing his musical capital freely and acquiring fresh perspectives without inhibition. At the Parallel Lines concert he will be accompanied on tabla by the brilliant tabla artiste from Kolkata, Debjit Patitundi.
