Indian cinematographer Vinod Perumal made his debut in 2015 with the Hindi movie Badmashiyaan. Two years prior to debuting as a cinematographer, he assisted Bollywood director Rohit Shetty in the 2013 comedy action-drama Chennai Express in 2013. In 2018, he made his Malayalam film debut with Roshni Dinaker's directorial debut My Story, starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Parvathy in lead roles.
