Volker Bertelmann is a German pianist and composer who works under the name Hauschka. Best known for his compositions on the prepared piano, he discovered the piano at the tender age of nine at the church service and took lessons for the next ten years.

His early career consisted of a band God`s Favorite Dog, which he formed with his cousin in 1992. The duo became famous for their tracks, `Love and Pain` and `Sway`, and went on to release an album with Sony Music`s Epic label, which gave them the opportunity to perform on national and international platforms. The year 2004, saw the inception of Bertelmann`s first album, Substantial, after which he released another album in 2005 called The Prepared Piano. Bertelmann made his debut in the film industry in 2007 with Wortbrot, and has since worked on the musical score of a lot of popular projects, across both films and television.

His notable work includes Act of Violence (2008), Bliss (2012), Lion (2016), Exodus (2016), television series Patrick Melrose (2018), Adrift (2018), The Current War (2019) and Hotel Mumbai (2019)
