Featuring acclaimed performer Nimmy Raphel, A Woman Or Not To Be is written and directed by Vinay Kumar. The production moves beyond a conventional adaptation of Shakespeare to explore the emotional and physical landscape of a woman negotiating grief, anger, power, identity and the question of who she is allowed to be.
Placing the female body at the centre of the Hamlet narrative, the play explores it not merely as a vehicle for the story, but as the space through which the story is experienced. Through movement, voice, stillness and physical intensity, A Woman Or Not To Be asks what happens when the familiar questions of Hamlet are stripped of their traditional gendered identity.
At its core, the play asks a deceptively simple question: What does it mean to be a woman when the world has already written the script for you?
By reimagining Hamlet as a daughter, the production invites audiences to revisit one of the oldest questions in theatre: to be, or not to be.
