About The Event
Aadhe-Adhure is a drama composed by Mohan Rakesh that depicts contemporary life with striking meaning. It offers a serious sociological and psychological study of the changes that have come, and continue to come, to society, family, individuals, and their mutual relationships. Its characters, situations, problems, and moods are at once particular and universal.
On one level, the play documents the attachment and tension between men and women; on another, it illustrates the essential incompleteness of human satisfaction. It portrays a disintegrating family in which each member is cut off from the others, slowly growing bitter towards one another. Mahendranath, living off Savitri's earnings, is a pathetic figure. Ashok waits for an opportunity to escape, passing his time cutting pictures out of magazines. Binni searches for an answer that continues to haunt her even after she leaves. Mahendranath, Singhania, Jagmohan, and Juneja represent four men of very different character, yet Savitri, who chose Mahendranath, never finds fulfilment with any of them. Those who want a great deal from life often find their satisfaction remains incomplete.
Ultimately, the play speaks to the commonality of human experience despite the diversity of individuals and circumstances.
