About The Event

CHITRANGADA - Reimagined |

A Prantika Saha Theatrical Production

A visually grand dance-drama in Bengali reimagining Rabindranath Tagore’s Chitrangada.

" নতুন ভাবনায় চিত্রাঙ্গদা "

Chitrangada – Reimagined presents Tagore’s timeless story through the lens of today’s digital generation.

What happens when Rabindranath Tagore’s timeless story meets today’s dark reality?

Set against the hauntingly relevant issue of cyber bullying, digital peer pressure, and fractured self-identity, Chitrangada – Reimagined presents Rabindranath Tagore’s immortal tale through the eyes of Meghla — a young orphaned college girl battling humiliation and online trolling.

On the brink of despair, Meghla is guided by Amma, the compassionate head of Agni Kanya Ashram, who begins narrating the legendary story of Chitrangada — the warrior princess torn between outer beauty and inner strength.

As the narrative unfolds on stage, myth and modernity intertwine.

Kurupa. Surupa. Arjun. Madan.

Identity. Transformation. Desire. Truth.

Through powerful choreography, dramatic storytelling and Rabindrasangeet presented with fresh musical arrangements, the production unfolds as a visually rich theatrical spectacle connecting Tagore’s timeless philosophy with the struggles of today’s generation — urging youth to rediscover self-worth beyond appearance and public validation.

Performed in Bengali with strong immersive storytelling, music and choreography that transcends language with its youth centric appeal, suitable for families, theatre lovers, and young audiences. The dance drama retains original Rabindrasangeet with new vocal interpretation and modern orchestration and adapted dramatic structure to enhance appeal for contemporary audiences.

Concept, Direction & Choreography by Prantika Saha, Visva-Bharati alumna and founder of Anand Rupayan Cultural Academy, who leads this production as a cultural initiative without commercial intent.

This multi-generational dance-drama brings together probashi Bengalis of Mumbai aged 5 to 70, from diverse walks of life, united by a shared desire to rediscover Tagore’s philosophy of inner dignity and self-worth.
