Play follows the raw, unsettling, and darkly
humorous journey of
*Maverick*
, a man whose only crime is refusing to live a
life shaped by monotony and social
conditioning. An absurdist soul with an
instinctive intolerance for pretense, Maverick
navigates
the world with a brutal, unfiltered honesty that
society cannot— or will not— tolerate. His
refusal
to conform becomes the very reason he is
branded “unstable” and confined to a mental
asylum
( Their are other reasons too , will get know in
the play).
Inside the asylum’s walls, Maverick
encounters a world that is ironically far more
absurd than he
is. Through fragmented memories, surreal
conversations, and sharply honest
monologues, he
unravels the thin line between sanity and
insanity. The institution meant to “fix” him
becomes a
mirror reflecting society’s fear of truth,
individuality, and unpredictability.
The play blends *absurdism, introspection,
and dark wit*
, immersing the audience in
Maverick’s confessions—sometimes chaotic,
sometimes painfully clear.
*Confessions from a
Mental Asylum* challenges the audience to
question the conventional sought of
expression in
communication to society and ourselves,
should they be re-evaluated or their existence
is a
burden.
Note from the Director (Or: Why l
Should Never Be Left Alone with a Bag
of Pretzels)
Most directors find inspiration in the haunting silhouette of a city
skyline or the profound depth of a classic poem. I found mine while
staring at a singular , unmoving dust bunny under my sofa for three
consecutive hours.
I was deep in the throes of professional-grade procrastination. I had a
deadline, a blank script, and a sudden, urgent need to alphabetize my
spice rack. As I pondered how to explain a plot that made absolutely
no sense, a divine bolt of laziness struck me:What if I just didn't
explain it?
I realized that if I set this play in a Space Mental Asylum, I would be
effectively bulletproof.
• Plot hole? It's a cosmic hallucination.
• Actor forgot a line? They're malfunctioning under the pressure of
zero-gravity psychosis.By moving the production to the literal fringes of
the universe and the metaphorical fringes of sanity , I have freed myself
from the shackles of
"logic" and "narrative consistency .
" Y ou aren't here to see a play;
you're here to witness what happens when a man avoids his
responsibilities so hard he accidentally invents a new dimension.
