Set against the pulse of contemporary Mumbai, this Hindi play explores friendship, fame, and the fragile egos that follow a life in the spotlight. Two retired comedy legends, played by Kumud Mishra and Shubhrajyoti Barat, once inseparable on stage, are brought together after twelve years to revive their iconic act for the country’s biggest comedy festival. The challenge lies not in the performance, but in the past they share and the differences they never resolved.
Directed by Sumeet Vyas, D For Drama’s ‘Puraane Chawal’ is a Hindi adaptation of Neil Simon’s ‘The Sunshine Boys’, reimagined for an Indian context by Farrukh Seyer and Avinash Gautam. The ensemble cast, featuring Ghanshyam Lalsa / Ishar Sunya, Ayesha Raza, Kirti V.A., Divyendu Saurav, and Prashant Pandey, supports a sharp, witty, and deeply human look at ageing performers and unresolved tensions.
