"Dastaan-e-Husn” invites you on a captivating journey into the forgotten world of India’s tawaifs— women who were not just performers, but cultural icons of music, dance, poetry, and resilience. Presented by the Performing Arts Tribe, a thriving community of over 500 art lovers, “Dastaan-e-Husn” unfolds the stories of tawaifs from the early 19th to late 20th century. Often misunderstood as mere courtesans, these women wielded immense influence in shaping art and even contributed to India’s cultural and political landscapes.
This dance drama breathes life into the triumphs, struggles, and legacies of over ten iconic tawaifs. Their stories unfold through mesmerizing choreography, music, and poetry, capturing their artistry, pain, and resilience. The narration is masterfully delivered by Syed Sahil Agha, a celebrated Dastangoi artist. His storytelling artistry—reviving the ancient Urdu oral tradition of Dastangoi—adds depth and emotion to each narrative thread.
The Performing Arts Tribe prides itself on being a non-judgmental space, where seasoned professionals and passionate amateurs unite in their love for the arts.
