“Idamitthamnache” is a psycho-social drama that portrays the external and internal conflicts in the life of Ananya, a young woman with a modern outlook who chooses to become a mother through artificial insemination while remaining unmarried, defying social norms, traditions, and familial pressures.
The play emotionally captures the intergenerational conflict caught between motherhood, self-realisation, tradition, and a woman’s right to make choices. It is also an attempt to give theatrical voice to the unspoken inner worlds of women who have lived their lives in silence.
“Idamitthamnache” is not merely a story about women’s freedom; it is an emotional journey through the anxieties of motherhood, inherited fears, silent endurance, tradition, conflict, self-discovery, and a woman’s right to choose. By questioning the “extraordinary silences” hidden within lives accepted as “normal,” the play urges us to re-examine the accepted truths - the “idam-itthams” - surrounding women’s lives.
