Jhapein is an intimate and emotionally charged play about sisterhood, caregiving, ageing, and the tensions that accumulate within families over time.

Set in Delhi, the play follows two sisters, Jyoti and Rita, as they navigate the responsibility of caring for their ailing mother while confronting years of love, resentment, dependence, rivalry, and unspoken hurt. What appear to be small, everyday disagreements gradually reveal the deeper emotional histories beneath them.

At its heart, Jhapein is about the ways families can become trapped in recurring patterns of conflict, care, guilt, and affection. The play finds the extraordinary in the ordinary, asking what happens when the people we know best become the people we struggle most to understand.

In this production, the mother has been reimagined as a puppet. This choice allows the relationship between Jyoti, Rita, and their mother to exist somewhere between the intimate and the mechanical. Through this reimagining, the production explores memory, dependence, and the complicated ways in which we hold on to the people we love.

Jhapein is directed by Keval Arora and presented by The Gathered, in association with Shivam Gupta Casting, for its opening shows.
