About The Event

Kaadina Kolalu

A Dance Presentation by Manojna Nritya Kala Academy based on the Songs of Kuvempu

Human life is often marked by struggles, conflicts, aspirations, and the constant search for meaning. Amidst these realities, the poetry of Kuvempu shines as a beacon of wisdom, harmony, and universal human values. Kaadina Kolalu is a dance production that seeks to celebrate and share the profound poetic vision of Rashtrakavi Kuvempu through the expressive medium of dance.

The title Kolalu holds special significance in Kuvempu's literary journey. It is the name of his very first collection of poems and also the title of the opening poem in that anthology. In this poem, Kuvempu introduces himself as:

"I am the flute of the forest, a poet of the woods, singing among the people of the land."

These evocative lines reveal Kuvempu's deep connection with nature and his role as a poet who transforms the voices of the forest into songs for humanity. Inspired by this imagery, Kaadina Kolalu explores the many melodies of the forest flute and brings them alive through movement, rhythm, music, and dramatic expression.

The production weaves together a selection of Kuvempu's celebrated poems and songs, linking them through a thematic narrative. Each piece reflects a different facet of his literary genius, his reverence for nature, his humanistic outlook, his spiritual insights, his love for Kannada, and his vision of universal brotherhood. Through Bharatanatyam and creative choreography, these poems are transformed into a visual and emotional experience that speaks to audiences across generations.

More than a dance presentation, Kaadina Kolalu is an artistic tribute to Kuvempu's enduring legacy. It seeks to make his literary treasures accessible to a wider audience, particularly younger generations, while fostering sensitivity, reflection, and appreciation for the richness of Kannada literature. By blending poetry, music, and dance into a unified artistic expression, the production offers a fresh interpretation of Kuvempu's works and invites audiences to experience the timeless beauty of his vision.

Kaadina Kolalu is thus a journey into the heart of Kuvempu's poetic world, a celebration of nature, humanity, and the eternal song of the forest flute.
