About The Event
Malla Gimpel
The protagonist, Gimpel, is called a fool and an idiot by everyone in the village. Because of his gentle nature and his tendency to believe everything easily, the villagers and schoolchildren constantly fool him and make fun of him for their own amusement. No matter how absurd a story someone tells him, he believes it.
Gimpel distributes his property and possessions among the children, leaves his village, and sets out to wander across the world. As he travels from place to place, telling stories to children, he discovers the true meaning of truth and falsehood in life. He peacefully awaits his death, comforted by the belief that in the true world beyond this imaginative world, in the afterlife, no one will be able to deceive him.
This story conveys the subtleties of human nature, moral dilemmas, the power of innocent faith, and the strength of forgiveness. Although the world calls him a fool, it is his forgiving nature and virtuous character that ultimately make him a truly great human being.
