SYNOPSIS
In a fictional village, a unique tradition unfold every full moon night - a swayamwar where women choose their ideal 'Sushil Ladka'. But this is not ordinary selection. The village's eldest woman, Somavant, presents a riddle. Whoever solves it gets the chance to tell her tale. But there's one condition - the story must be a lie. The most convincing falsehood wins, yet each tale is a sharp satire, exposing the uncomfortable truths we see but refuse to confront.
As the night unfolds, we realise that life itself is a web of riddles and stories. But beyond all the illusions, the one thing that truly touches us is love.
DIRECTOR'S NOTE
Riddles (Paheliyan) have always held a sacred, magical place in our folktales - not merely as games, but as keepers of wisdom, metaphors for life, and bridges between souls. In Naam Mein Ka Rakhwo Hai? we wanted to honour this ric oral tradition by stepping away from existing folklore and crafting out own original riddles to weave into the narrative.
Set in a completely fictional, timeless village where identity, titles, and societal conventions are questioned through wit and satire, we felt that standard language could not fully capture the innocence, earthiness, and absurdity of this world. Thus, we created a brand new, original dialect - a blend of folk rhythms, gibberish, and reimagined Hindi - specifically for the inhabitants of this universe.
This play is a celebrated journey through storytelling, original riddles, and musical satire, urging us to look beyond the labels, titles, and names we cling to. After all, if identity can be stripped away in a second, isnt't it love, laughter, and human connection that truly remain?
