THEATRE JIL JIL RAMAMANI presents SOME MOTHERS, OTHER MOTHERS
Akvarious Productions x AntiSocial present PLAY DATES - your fun, weekly dose of drama at AntiSocial, Lower Parel.
An evening of performance pieces exploring motherhood through queer experiences, this programme moves through stories of family, memory, care, and belonging. Blending contemporary, historical, and fictional narratives, the works look at the many ways people create and sustain relationships; through biology, chosen family, friendship, community, and survival.
A young man reflects on growing up with two mothers, a mother prepares to meet her daughter's girlfriend over a home-cooked meal, and a trans initiation ritual reimagines motherhood through community and transformation. Other pieces revisit figures such as Dominic D'Souza, Firdaus Kanga, and Sultan 'Bobby' Padamsee through memory and storytelling, while themes of migration, illness, resilience, and social change run through the evening. Originally developed as part of the promenade shows, Postcards from Goa and Postcards from Colaba, these works are brought together here in a shared indoor theatrical experience.
In honour of LGBTQ History Month, this performance honours our collective past, chosen families, and the many ways we love and survive.
