Synopsis:
Those who have endured profound hurt clear burnt fields, cut down barren areca palms and build a stage from old baskets and torn clothes. In their attempt to survive, laugh and tell their stories, the outcasts dance evolves into Porat. Drawing on the folk form of Porat Nataka, the play brings familiar stories into conversation with histories that a progressive society continues to conceal. Humour sits alongside violence, exposing the ways in which power operates both openly and quietly. As the narrative unfolds, the play turns towards the political landscape beneath these stories- one that demands to be revisited and spoken about. For some, Porat is a slur; for others, it becomes a fight.
