About The Event
Raktakarobi/Red Oleanders, a play by Rabindranath Tagore, written a hundred years ago, has maintained relevance throughout this period. Written through 11 versions, the play is a nuanced depiction of the relationship between the State and its Subjects in almost every country and period conceivable. The play has been presented in various forms and designs in almost every Indian language.
The current production is the outcome of a journey that we undertook a year ago under the mentorship of the noted art/theatre scholar, Sri Samik Bandyopadhyay. Our journey has been one of self-discovery and of personalising the text to our values, politics and the socio/political environment that we find ourselves in.
The play is presented by Shapno Ekhon, designed and directed by Shomik Ray guided by the dramaturgy of Sri Samik Bandyopadhyay.
