About The Event

Both Makhan Singh and Vimala (i.e. Vimi), husband and wife, are living a very happy life. Vimi has a younger sister whose name is Nirmala (i.e. Nimmi). Nimmi is a very beautiful woman to look at and is very playful by nature. Nimmi lives with her husband Chandrapal and Nimmi has two children who study in a hostel outside the state. Nimmi and Chandrapal are financially weak and Nimmi and Chandrapal sometimes come to Makhan Singh and Vimi's place and even stay there. There is a little peace between the two families. A lot of love is also visible. Makhan Singh keeps teasing his sister-in-law Nimmi with sarcastic statements.Makhan Singh's wife Vimi always forbids him not to tease her like this. Makhan Singh mostly keeps telling his sister-in-law Nimmi that 'Sister-in-law, you are my half of the family.' Whenever Makhan Singh tells Nimmi in such a sarcastic statement in front of everyone, 'Sister-in-law, you are my half of the family', then Nimmi feels like a big joke in front of everyone. Nimmi refuses her elder sister Vimi tells her brother-in-law not to make such jokes in front of everyone. She asks Makhan Singh every time not to pass such comment on Nimmi and call her 'Half-Gharwali', but Makkhan Singh avoids it every time by saying that this is the custom of the world. One does not become 'Half-Gharwali' (Half-Wife) by someone's saying. Makkhan Singh did not know that jokingly saying like this, 'Sister-in-law, you are my half-wife' will one day become a noose around Makkhan Singh's neck. Gradually, Makkhan Singh makes fun of his sister-in-law. Such flirty act of Makhan Singh starts creating attraction in Nimmi's mind and then after some time, Nimmi and Makhan Singh start talking about love affair with each other on the phone and gradually the brother-in-law and sister-in-law start getting closer to each other. They start silently meeting outside and hanging out. Then one day, both brother-in-law and sister-in-law also plan to visit Ooty. Both of them stay in Ooty for some days and also develop physical relations. After coming back from Ooty, Vimi starts getting suspicious about both of them by watching their changed behaviour with each other. Vimi is worried day and night. Nimmi starts living alone and even gets Baba to do sorcery for her husband. Nimmi is financially weak, so she directly starts requesting money from her brother-in-law Makkhan Singh. Initially, Makkhan Singh gives a little money, but day by day, Nimmi's habit of asking for money increases. Nimmi impoverishes her brother-in-law Makkhan Singh with lakhs of rupees. Nimmi keeps demanding money from Makkhan Singh.

And one day Nimmi files a court case against Makkhan Singh due to not getting the money. Nimmi accuses Makkhan Singh that Makkhan Singh has accepted Nimmi as half-wife and sister-in-law has become now a half-wife. This is what Makhan Singh says in the society. Nimmi's respect and reputation in the society is all gone. The reason for all this is Makhan Singh calling Nimmi 'Sister-in-law , the half-wife' in front of everyone. Nimmi demands from the court that she should be given half of Makhan Singh's property and half the money . Vimi tells Makhan Singh that I had forbidden you to call Nimmi 'Saali Aadhi Gharwaali' but you did not agree. At the end of the play, a surprising incident happens and Makan Singh requests everyone to maintain the dignity of their relationship. In this way the play ends with a moral lesson. In the end everyone laughs and the curtain of the play Saali Aadhi Gharwaali falls.
