About The Event
Shikhandi! A less-discussed character of the Mahabharata, yet celebrated as one of the earliest literary representations of a transgender or non-binary person in world mythology—often described as a trans man, an intersex figure, or a gender-fluid warrior. This resonates deeply with LGBTQ+ communities around the world.
The great character in the Mahabharata, Bhishma, had one-sided loyalty to the Kuru family and a narrow-minded view of women.
Because of this, the life of the princess of Kashi, Amba, became a tragedy.
A society that looked down on women ignored Amba’s feelings. They did not care what she wanted. Because of this rejection, Amba was forced to be reborn as Shikhandi.
The play "Shikhandi" explores these exact questions.
The sad part is, these same questions still exist today—just in different forms.
