Set in the backdrop of partition of India, like they did with their other possessions and population, India and Pakistan decide to exchange their mental asylum inmates also on religious basis. As this news breaks inside a Lahore asylum, what follows is funny, dark and absurd. The inmates ask straight and simple questions. But simple questions do not have answers, often. Karachi and Lahore have gone to Pakistan, and Amritsar gone to India. Cities have started moving around. A stunned asylum inmate, Sardar Bishen Singh is seeking the LIVE or present location of his hometown, Toba Tek Singh. He goes around asking fellow inmates, staff and officers of the asylum, but no one has a clear answer. Even one of his fellow inmates who calls himself god does not answer. On the day of exchange Bishen Singh refuses to relocate into India or Pakistan, until he gets a clear answer about the whereabouts of Toba Tek Singh. At the Wagah border, he is dragged by the forces, and what follows leaves everyone stunned!
Let us discover the magic of Manto through this heart wrenching story around the partition of India.
