The daughter of Managing Director of the HDFC Bank, Aditya Puri, actor-writer Amrita Puri started off on the stage as a writer and actor. Her first play was Quasar Thakore Padamsee`s English play, Retellings View From The Stage. She also ventured into copywriting and freelancing for a short while. Amrita, then, started auditioning for movies and ad films and landed in her first ad for Kotex and soon featured in TV commercials for several other brands.
After auditioning for a few films, she landed the role of Shefali Thakur in Aisha (2010), which earned her commercial and critical acclaim as well as nominations for the Filmfare, Zee Cine and Screen Awards. She also received the Stardust Award for Best Breakthrough Performance. Post her successful stint with Aisha, she went back to the theatre, where she starred in the M.E.T.A. award-winning play by Akvarious Productions, The Interview. She was also a part of the play `Famous Last Words`.
Amrita`s second film was Blood Money (2012), in which she played the female lead. This film, like her other projects, was given a thumbs up by both, the audience as well as the critics, making it Amrita`s third critical and commercial success. The actress has been a part of series like Stories by Rabindranath Tagore (2015), P.O.W. Bandi Yuddh Ke (2016-2017), and Four More Shots Please (2019).
