A versatile artist, Baltasar Kormakur is an actor, theatre artist, film director and producer from Iceland. Best known for making action films, Baltasar Kormakur, in his illustrious career has won several awards including a Crystal Globe award at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in 2007.

Having started his career as an actor, he initially starred mostly in Icelandic films. Some of his notable film credits as an actor include Devil's Island (1996), No Such Thing (2001), Me and Morrison (2001) and Reykjavik-Rotterdam (2008). Although Kormakur did not attain much recognition as an actor, he achieved global and fame and recognition as a director. His maiden directorial venture 101 Reykjavik (2000) received a nomination at the Chicago International Film Festival in the Gold Hugo category.

His other notable ventures as a director include A Little Trip to the Heaven (2005), Inhale (2010), Contraband (2012), Everest (2015) and Adrift (2018), an action adventure drama starring Shailene Woodley, Sam Claflin and Elizabeth Hawthrone.
