Telugu film director Chandoo Mondeti made his directorial debut with the 2014 bilingual mystery thriller Karthikeya, which starred Nikhil Siddharth, Swati Reddy, Tanikella Bharani, and Rao Ramesh in pivotal roles. The movie went on to become a commercial success and opened to extremely positive reviews from the critics. Chandoo Mondeti received the Filmfare Award nomination for Best Director, and also a SIIMA nomination for Best Debutante Director for Karthikeya. In 2016, the director remade the Malayalam movie Premam in Telugu, titled the same. The remake featuring Naga Chaitanya, Shruti Haasan, Madonna Sebastian, and Anupama Parameswaran was well-received by the audience and the critics alike. His 2018 release includes Kirrak Party and Savyasachi.
