Vasanth Kumar Shivashankar Padukone, better known by his screen name Guru Dutt, regarded as one of the greatest filmmakers in India was a versatile artist-he was an actor, director, and producer. The legendary artist who was one of the most influential personalities during the 1950`s 1960`s is widely remembered for his films like Pyaasa, and Kaagaz Ke Pool were listed among the greatest films of all time by the Time Magazine. In 2010, Guru Dutt was also included among the CNN`s top 25 Asian actors of all time.

In his illustrious career, Guru Dutt starred in more than 10 films and directed eight films, most of which gained a cult status in the later years; some of his movies that re-released in foreign countries like Germany, France, and Japan attracted a huge crowd and the shows almost always went full house. Some of his most notable films as an actor includes Baaz (1953), Pyaasa (1957), Chaudhvin Ka Chand (1960), Bharosa (1963), and Sanjh Aur Savera (1964). Some of his popular directorial ventures include Baazi (1951), Mr. & Mrs. `55 (1955), Pyaasa (1957) and Kaagaz Ke Phool (1959). The legendary actor`s legacy came to an end when he breathed his last at his apartment in Bombay in October 1964.
