Kushal Chakraborty gained popularity as a child actor for essaying the lead role in legendary Satyajit Ray`s movie Sonar Kella. Kushal was only six at the time when he made his screen debut and it was only 18 years later that he starred in his second film Bhalobasa O Andhakar. Kushal, who holds a degree in Civil Engineering, has since appeared in movies such as Nikhonj (1996), Santan (1999), Dabi (2000), Dabi (2000), Mahasangram (2006), and Akash Choan (2016).

Kushal is also a director and has worked on films such as Dhyatterika, Sahitter Shera Somoy, and Bijoyini. In 2017, he starred in the movie Curzoner Kalom written and directed by Padmanabha Dasgupta. His 2018 release includes Gaheen Hriday.
