An award-winning Bollywood director, Omung Kumar started his career as a production designer for the movies Black (2005) and Saawariya (2007). He was associated as an art director with several movies like Dil Hai Tumhara, Ishq Vishk, Masti, Fida, Waqt: The Race Against Time, Pyaar Ke Side Effects, and Yuvvraaj. His first film as a director was the 2014 biographical sports drama Mary Kom, starring Priyanka Chopra as Mary Kom, which turned out to be a critical and commercial success. This movie won him The National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment and a nomination for Filmfare Award for Best Film.
His next venture was the biographical drama film Sarbjit, starring Randeep Hooda in the titular role of Sarabjit Singh and Aishwarya Rai as Dalbir Kaur. The movie received mixed reviews from critics and was successful at the box office. Omung`s 2017 directorial venture includes the action thriller film Bhoomi, a revenge story which stars Sanjay Dutt, along with Aditi Rao Hydari as his daughter, and Sidhant Gupta in the lead roles. His 2019 release includes PM Narendra Modi.
