A filmmaker, screenwriter, and producer Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is known for directing movies like Rang De Basanti and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. The former won four National Awards and was India`s official entry to the Oscars 2006- 2007.

Early Life
Born on 7th July 1963 in Delhi, India, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra completed his schooling from Air Force Bal Bharti School, New Delhi and graduated from Sri Ram College of Commerce in Delhi University. He kick-started his career by working as an ad filmmaker and established his advertising company Flicks Motion Picture Limited in 1986, under which he made television commercials for brands like Toyota, Pepsi ,Coke, BPL, and American Express.

Personal Life
He tied the knot with P.S Bharti in 1992 and the couple has a daughter Bharavi and son Vedant.

Movie Career
Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra made his directorial debut in 2001 with the supernatural thriller film Aks. Starring Amitabh Bachchan, Raveena Tandon, Nandita Das and Manoj Bajpayee, the film won a lot of critical acclaims but failed to create an impact at the box office.

In 2004, he established his own motion picture production company ROMP (Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra Pictures) and the first movie under this banner was the coming-of-age Indian drama Rang De Basanti. Featuring an ensemble cast comprising Aamir Khan, Siddharth Narayan, Soha Ali Khan, Kunal Kapoor, R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Atul Kulkarni and British actress Alice Patten, the movie received huge critical acclaim, winning the 53rd National Award for the most popular film. The story about a British documentary filmmaker determined to make a film on the Indian freedom fighters had an enormous social impact in India and was chosen as India`s official entry for the Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category.

In 2009, Rakeysh went onto make Delhi 6 which is set against the backdrop of the caste and religious divide of the Indian society. The film won the Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration at 57th National Film Awards. Although critically a hit, the film was a commercial failure.

Then in 2011 Rakeysh made a documentary film Bollywood: The Greatest Love Story Ever Told, co-directed by Jeffery Zimbalist. The movie received a good response and was an official selection at the Cannes in 2011. In the same year, he directed the biopic starring Farhan Akhtar as Milkha Singh, the legendary Indian sprinter also known as `The Flying Sikh`. The film was a major commercial and critical success with the India Today review concluding "Go and run with Milkha. In this fast-paced life, this race will definitely soothe your senses."

His 2016 release includes Mirzya, starring Harshvardhan Kapoor and Saiyami Kher in the lead roles. His 2019 release includes Mere Pyare Prime Minister.
