About the movie
Athang is a film about complex relationships, infinite love, sacrifice, loyalty and artistic presentation of emotions.
A beautiful young student from J.J. School of Arts named Shilpa Hegde (Tanvi Hegde) is madly in love with a Cardiologist Kartik Sardesai (Milind Gawali), a successful Doctor, married to Vaijanti Sardesai (Smita Shewale), a Lawyer who is five months pregnant; Shilpa believes that Dr. Kartik will leave his wife Vaijanti for her. Vaijanti gets suspicious about Dr. Kartik having an affair with someone and decides to leave him after she feels assured of the affair. His family starts falling apart.
Even after Vaijanti leaves Dr. Kartik, he doesn`t go with Shilpa to her dream destination of Taj Mahal in Agra, which was supposedly the plan. With this decision of Dr. Kartik, Shilpa gets paranoid and it leads her into depression. Due to this depressed state of mind Shilpa starts taking imprudent steps of revenge with the help of her friend Samar (Amit Dolawat). Samar helps her irrational actions as he is madly in love with her.
A series of coincidental events take place which make Dr. Kartik`s life even more tragic. But a small streak of light comes to his rescue when his wife Vaijanti decides to come back to him, to support him because of her instinctive belief of his innocence. Shilpa could not stand Kartik`s love for his wife and hence decides to end her life. This is the turning point where the story is shifted from Shilpa`s perspective to Kartik`s perspective.
