Director Jayaraj's magnum opus 'Veeram', which is made with a whopping budget of Rs 35 Crores, features Bollywood star Kunal Kapoor in the lead role along with Shivajith Nambiar, Himarsha Venkatsamy, Divina Thakur, and Aaran in important roles. The tri-lingual movie set in the backdrop of 13th century Kerala, is an adaptation of William Shakespeare's play, Macbeth, that tells the story of Kerala's folkloric anti-hero, Chandu.

Shot in three languages - English, Hindi and Malayalam, Veeram has Hollywood technicians - action choreographer Allan Poppleton (of 300, Hunger Games, Avatar and Lord of Rings fame), Oscar and Emmy award-winning make-up artist Trefor Proud, music director Jeff Rona (of Phantom, Traffic and Prince of Egypt fame) and visual effects compositor and colourist Jeff Olm (of Monsters vs Aliens, How to Train Your Dragon, Titanic and Spiderman fame). Jointly produced by Chandramohan D Pillai and Pradeep Rajan under the banner of Chandrakala Arts, Veeram is brought to the theatres by Lal Joses's LJ Films on February 24, 2017.

For its technical brilliance, Veeram found a place in the list of films in contention for the best picture Oscar this year. Also, a song ' ...We will rise...' from the English version of Veeram, composed by Jeff Rona, passed the eligibility test to reach an Oscar nomination along with 98 other International songs.
