Ritu directed by
Shyamaprasad, and his performance was praised by critics.
His second release was the Malayalam drama
Kadha Thudarunnu (2010) opposite
Mamta Mohandas and
Jayaram directed by
Sathyan Anthikad which was a hit at the box office.
Apoorvaragam also released in 2010 which was a Malayalam thriller. Although, it did not do well at the box office, Asif won Best Villain award at Asianet Film Awards. Best of Luck, which was a Malayalam language remake of Bollywood comedy film All the Best: Fun Begins also released in the same year, but unlike the original, it received negative reviews unanimously. His 2011 release, Traffic, a Malayalam thriller received positive reviews where he starred among three other protagonists, was a commercial success. Owing to the movies` success, it was remade in Tamil as
Chennaiyil Oru Naal in 2013 and Hindi as Traffic in May 2016. The same year he had another successful film Salt N` Pepper which was a romantic comedy that demonstrated the love story of two couples. His movie
Ithu Nammude Katha (2011) received moderately positive reviews from critics but failed at the box office.
The year 2012 saw Asif appear in 13 films. While
Asuravithu, released earlier in the year, received negative reviews at the box office, his performance as Aloshy in
Sibi Malayil`s
Unnam earned him the Best Actor in a Negative Role nomination at the 2nd South Indian International Movie Awards. However, following this, Asif had a disappointing year at the box office as several of his films received mixed to negative reviews with only Husbands of Goa, directed by Saju Surendran, becoming a hit at the box office.
Asif began 2013 just like he ended 2012, with another flop at the box office, Cowboy. It was only his next release,
Killi Poyi, directed by director
Vinay Govind, that went on to receive good reviews at the box office, and broke Asif`s run of unsuccessful movies. In his next movie,
Red Wine directed
Salam Bappu, Asif played a local vendor. The movie though received positive reviews, stirred a controversy owing to its plot`s uncanny resemblance to the case involving the murder of Paul M. George, the Muthoot Finance Group scion. The actor`s next three releases of the year were
