Academy Award-nominated Australian cinematographer Donald McAlpine is a veteran of over 50 feature films, and has worked in movie industries around the world in the course of a career spanning over four decades. He started out in Australian cinema in the early 1970s, working with celebrated filmmakers like Bruce Beresford and Gillian Armstrong in movies like The Adventures of Barry McKenzie (1972), Breaker Morant (1980) and My Brilliant Career (1982) early. Subsequently, McAlpine ventured in Hollywood in the 1980s.
Over the years, he has been associated with several popular and acclaimed movies like Mrs. Doubtfire (1993), Romeo + Juliet (1996), Moulin Rouge! (2001) and X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), with the visually stunning musical romantic comedy Moulin Rouge! earning the cinematographer his maiden Academy Award nomination and second BAFTA Award nomination in 2002.
