Jonathan Groff is an American actor and singer who is well known for his performance on both, stage and screen. As a child, he always had an interest in the field and even fell in love with Julie Andrew
`s character in Mary Poppins. Coincidentally, in 2003, he made his debut in theatre through a role in a production of The Sound of Music, which is also one of Julie Andrew`s best known films. Groff has played a role in Broadway`s critically acclaimed Hamilton, for which he won a Tony Award. He came out as gay in 2009 and has since won two awards for being an advocate for the LGBTQ community.
In the beginning of his career, Groff took part in several plays including Peter Pan, My Fair Lady, and Honk! In 2005 he made his Broadway debut through the musical In My Life, and in 2006 originated the role of Melchior Gabor in the rock musical Spring Awakening. Through a soap opera called One Life to Live (2007), Groff made his first appearance on screen. In 2009 he made his film debut in Taking Woodstock. However, he became a well-known face in the industry through his recurring character in the TV series Glee (2009-2015). In 2013 Groff voiced the character of Kristoff in Frozen
, which became that year`s highest-grossing film. Later he took up a role in the HBO series Looking (2014-2015). Since 2016, he has been playing the lead role in the Netflix series Mindhunter. He plays Holden Ford, an FBI agent investigating serial killers. His 2019 releases include Frozen 2
