Spruha Joshi
Born: October 13, 1989 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India
Spruha Joshi is an Indian film, television, and theater actress, well known in the Marathi film and television industry. She is also a lyricist and a poet. Spruha Joshi started out by working in plays from her school and college day eventually making her mark on the silver screen. Apart from acting, Spruha has also authored a book, she published her first book titled Chandanchura in 2009. Her second book, Lopamudra is a collection of poems.

Born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, Spruha is the daughter of Shirish Joshi who works in a private company. The actress along with her younger sister, Kshipra Joshi, a gymnast had a simple upbringing. She finished her schooling from Balmohan Vidya Mandir, Dadar, Mumbai and later pursued her graduation in Arts from Ruia College in Mumbai. While in college, she performed in the play Ga Ma Bha Na and soon began receiving offers for numerous films and TV shows.

She is married to Varad Laghate, a marketing professional.

As an actress
Spruha made her silver screen debut in 2004 with Gajendra Ahire directed Marathi-language film Maai Baap where she appeared as a child artist. After her debut movie, the actress took a hiatus for six years to complete her education. Her first film as the lead actress was Morya (2011), which was based on the Ganeshotsav festival and how the celebrations are manipulated by the politicians. The film directed by Avdhoot Gupte performed well at the box office.

In 2015, the actress had two releases viz. A Paying Ghost and Bioscope. Whilst the former, a fictional story based on the famous novel by V.P. Kale raked in good numbers at the box office, the latter did not garner any attention. The actress started her campaign in 2016 with a cameo in the Joji Raechal Job directed film Paisa Paisa starring Sachit Patil, Milind Shinde, Ashish Newalkar, and Vinita Joshi. Later in the year, the actress collaborated with director Ruturaj Dhalgade for his Marathi drama Lost and Found. The film co-starring Siddharth Chandekar, Mohan Agashe and Mangesh Desai performed averagely at the box office.

As a lyricist
Apart from working as an actress, Spruha Joshi has also penned down the lyrics of songs; she made her debut as a lyricist with the title track of the 2014 film Baavre Prem He. The following year, she penned the lyrics for ‘Kiti Sangaychay Mala’ in Double (2015) and ‘Saad Hi Preetichi’ in Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai 2 (2015).

As a child artist, while still studying in 7th grade, Spruha appeared on the TV show De Dhamaal. In 2008, she played the lead role of Advocate Uma Band in the TV series Agnihotra. In 2012, her role of Kuhu, the lead character’s (played by Swapnil Joshi) cute and daydreaming cousin in Eka Lagnachi Dusri Goshta was well received by the audience and it made her a household name. Since late 2012, she began playing the role of Ramabai Ranade in the TV show Unch Maaza Zoka. The year 2015 saw her anchor the show Kitchen Chi Superstar, a cooking reality show.

Spruha Joshi had a penchant for performing on stage right from her school days. After making her mark in both TV and film industries, the actress starred in her maiden theater venture in 2011 titled Lahanpan Dega Deva. Over the next few years, she appeared in several plays like Never Mind (2012), Nandi (2014), Don’t Worry Be Happy (2015).
