Suraj Sharma rose to fame after starring in director Ang lee`s ambitious project Life of Pi. The movie went on to win multiple Oscars, with Suraj receiving a BAFTA nomination for the Rising Star Award. He then appeared in the American crime TV series Homeland as Aayan Ibrahim, nephew of a terrorist.

Early Life
Born and raised in New Delhi, India to Gokul Churai, a software engineer, and Sashikala, an Indian economist, Suraj completed his schooling from Sardar Patel Vidyalaya and graduated in philosophy from St. Stephen`s College of Delhi University. He further studied mass communication at New York University. Suraj has a younger sibling, Sriharsh Sharma, who also auditioned with him for the part of Piscine Molitor "Pi" Patel in Life of Pi. Ang Lee wanted an Indian teenager and nearly 3000 boys were called before Suraj was finalized.

Movie Career
Life of Pi, which marked Suraj`s debut in the world of cinema, released in 2012 and was based on Yann Martel`s 2001 novel of the same name. Co-starring Irrfan Khan and Tabu in pivotal roles, the movie became the biggest Hollywood hit of the year in India and also received a highly favorable response around the globe. Considering that Suraj had no previous acting experience, his performance was applauded by domestic and international audiences and critics alike. He took home the Saturn Award and Empire Award for Best Performance by a Younger Actor and Best Male Newcomer, respectively.

He subsequently appeared in the American biographical sports film Million Dollar Arm (2014), the Hindi comedy movie Umrika (2015), and the American adventure comedy, Burn Your Maps (2016).

His 2017 release includes the drama film Phillauri, which along with Suraj stars Anushka Sharma, Diljit Dosanjh, Mehreen Pirzada in important roles.
