Vetrimaaran is a writer, producer and director working primarily in the Tamil film circuit. He was born to Dr. V. Chitravel, a veterinary scientist and Megala Chitravel, a noted novelist. Before becoming a director Vetrimaaran worked as a assistant director to Balu Mahendra and Kadhir. He made his debut with the film
Polladhavan (2007). His second film,
Aadukalam (2011), won him the National Award for Best Director and the National Award for Best Screenplay. His third directorial venture Visaranai (2015), won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil. He has also produced Udhayam NH4 (2013) and
Kaaka Muttai (2015). His upcoming directorial venture is Vada Chennai, which is set for a 2017 release. His 2018 releases include
Annanukku Jey and
Vada Chennai. His 2019 releases includes Vicharana and Asuran.
