Asif Ali is a famous South-Indian film actor and producer who is known for his work in Malayalam language movies. After making his debut in the film Ritu (2009), directed by Shyamaprasad, he appeared in several successful movies such asApoorvaragam (2010) and Salt N` Paper (2011). He co-founded the production house Adam`s World of Imagination along with Brijesh Muhammed and Sajin Jaffer. In 2015, the production house released its first movie
Kohinoor directed by Vinay Govind. His 2017 releases include Honey Bee 2, Take Off and Adventures of Omanakuttan.
Asif has a Business Administration degree from Marian College, Kuttikkanam. Asif is married to Zama Mazreen since May 2013, and they have a son together.
As an Actor
In 2009, Asif debuted among two other artists in the movie Ritu directed by Shyamaprasad, and his performance was praised by critics.
His second release was the Malayalam drama Kadha Thudarunnu (2010) oppositeMamta Mohandas and Jayaram directed by Sathyan Anthikad which was a hit at the box office. Apoorvaragam also released in 2010 which was a Malayalam thriller. Although, it did not do well at the box office, Asif won Best Villain award at Asianet Film Awards. Best of Luck, which was a Malayalam language remake of Bollywood comedy film All the Best: Fun Begins also released in the same year, but unlike the original, it received negative reviews unanimously. His 2011 release, Traffic, a Malayalam thriller received positive reviews where he starred among three other protagonists, was a commercial success. Owing to the movies` success, it was remade in Tamil as Chennaiyil Oru Naal in 2013 and Hindi as Traffic in May 2016. The same year he had another successful film Salt N` Pepper which was a romantic comedy that demonstrated the love story of two couples. His movie Ithu Nammude Katha (2011) received moderately positive reviews from critics but failed at the box office.
The year 2012 saw Asif appear in 13 films. While Asuravithu, released earlier in the year, received negative reviews at the box office, his performance as Aloshy in Sibi Malayil`s Unnam earned him the Best Actor in a Negative Role nomination at the 2nd South Indian International Movie Awards. However, following this, Asif had a disappointing year at the box office as several of his films received mixed to negative reviews with only Husbands of Goa, directed by Saju Surendran, becoming a hit at the box office.
Asif began 2013 just like he ended 2012, with another flop at the box office, Cowboy. It was only his next release,Killi Poyi, directed by directorVinay Govind, that went on to receive good reviews at the box office, and broke Asif`s run of unsuccessful movies. In his next movie,Red Wine directed Salam Bappu, Asif played a local vendor. The movie though received positive reviews, stirred a controversy owing to its plot`s uncanny resemblance to the case involving the murder of Paul M. George, the Muthoot Finance Group scion. The actor`s next three releases of the year were Honey Bee, D Company, and Bicycle Thieves.
His other notable work includes Apothecary (2014), Sapthamashree Thaskarah (2014), Vellimoonga (2014), Mylanchi Monchulla Veedu (2014), You too Brutus (2015) and Nirnayakam (2015), among others.
Asif`s last release of 2015 was Rajamma @ Yahoo where he starred in the lead role with Kunchacko Boban. Although the actors` performances were appreciated, the film received mixed reviews at the box office.
Asif`s next movie Ithu Thaanda Police (2016) was inspired by Asia`s first women police station which was inaugurated in Kozhikode in 1973. In the same year Asif starred in Anuraga Karikkin Vellam, a Malayalam family entertainer andKavi Uddheshichathu..? both being average grossers at the box office. His 2017 releases Honey Bee 2, Take Off and Adventures of Omanakuttan. His 2018 projects include Iblis and Mandharam. His 2019 releases include Mera Naam Shaji and Virus.
