One of the most versatile and charismatic actors in Hollywood, Colin James Farrell is best known for his brilliant roles in Phone Booth (2002), Minority Report (2002), In Burges (2008), and Total Recall (2012). The actor who started his career by appearing on the BBC TV series, Ballykissangel in 1998 announced his arrival in Hollywood in a big way with a stellar performance in Tigerland (2000). A Winner of Golden Globe Award and several international recognitions and awards, over the years, Farrell has garnered a huge fan following all across the globe.

Early Life
Colin Farrell was born to Rita Farrell and Eamon Farrell, who played professional football for Shamrock Rovers as well as ran a health-food shop. Farrell has three siblings, an elder brother named Eamon Jr and two sisters named, Claudine and Catherine. The actor was born in Dublin, Ireland and spent most of his childhood days there before eventually his family moved to Castleknock, a suburban region in Dublin. The actor studied at St. Brigid`s National School and later went to Castleknock College where he completed his secondary schooling and pursued his college from the Gormanston College in County Meath.

While growing up, Farrell was so inspired by the performance of Henry Thomas in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial that it moved him to tears and also inspired him to take up acting as a career. Encouraged by his brother, Farrell attended the Gaiety School of Acting but eventually dropped out as he was cast in a BBC television drama series Ballykissangel as Danny Byrne.

Personal Life
In 2000, at the premiere of Quills Colin Farrell met English singer and actress, Amelia Warner and the two immediately hit off and dated each other from July to November 2001. There was wide speculation that the duo had got married, however, in December 2011, Warner told The Sun "the marriage was never legal: we had a ceremony on a beach in Tahiti that was by no means legal and we knew it wasn`t_ It was just a thing we did on holiday. We went shark feeding and then we did that. We booked them both on the activities desk at the hotel."

In 2003, Kim Bordenave and Colin Farrell had a son who was born at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles. Four years later, in October 2007, Farrell said that his son was diagnosed with Angelman syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that delays the intellectual development as well as causes speech impairment and excitable demeanor. After separating from Bordenave, he dated actor Muireann McDonnell, an Irish medical student between 2007 and 2008. Later, Farrell dated the British-American writer, Emma Forrest for over one year. In 2009, he fathered his second child, with Ondine co-star, Alicja Bachleda-Curus and after being in a relationship for about one year, they ended their relationship in mid-2010.

Movie Career
Colin Farrell started his acting career on the big screen in 1997 with a small role in Drinking Crude directed by Owen McPolin. Two years later, the actor appeared in the British drama film, The War Zone, which was directed by the debutant director, Tim Roth. The film won many nominations at the various prestigious international film Awards.

Following a good start to his career, the actor went on to appear in the 2000 crime comedy film, Ordinary Decent Criminal directed by Thaddeus O` Sullivan. Despite having a star-studded cast, upon release, the film got mostly negative reviews and bombed at the box-office. Later that year, he his major breakthrough as he was cast in the American war drama film, Tigerland directed by Joel Schumacher. His brilliant performance won the Boston Society of Film Critics Award for Best Actor as well as London Film Critics` Circle Award for Newcomer of the Year.

After the huge success of Tigerland, Farrell had a bad start to the year in 2001 as he starred alongside Scott Cann, Ali Larter, Gabriel Macht, and Gregory Smith in the Les Mayfield directed film American Outlaws. In 2002, the actor had two releases, the first of which was Hart`s War, an American thriller drama film about World War II prisoner of war camp titled Hart`s War. The film based on the novel by John Katzenbach earned mixed critical reviews but turned out to be a box office failure. Later, in the year acclaimed director Steven Spielberg cast Farrell in the critically hit Minority Report, an American action mystery thriller film, which was based on the short story of the same name by Philip K. Dick. The film, which also features Tom Cruise, Samantha Morton and Max von Sydow received wide positive reviews and emerged to be a box office hit, grossing more than 358.4 million at the box office.

By 2003, Colin Farrell had established himself as one of the most accomplished and sought after actors in Hollywood; a testimony to his was having six releases in the same year. His most popular films of the year included Phone Booth, Daredevil, and S.W.A.T all of which won him critical praises and awards including the Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie Villain (for Daredevil) and a nomination for Best Actor at the Irish Film & Television Award (S.W.A.T). After the immensely successful year at the box office in 2003, the following year, the actor won more praises for his brilliant role in the Michael Mayer-directed film, A Home at the Home End of the World, which was an adaptation of Michael Cunningham`s novel of the same name. The film won Farrell a nomination at the Irish Film Award for Best Actor and the film too won a nomination for the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Film but eventually lost to Kinsey. His other film of the year was the epic historical drama film titled Alexander. The film grossed about 167. 3 million USD worldwide.

From 2005 to 2007, the actor had four releases, viz. The New world (2005), Miami Vice (2006), Ask the Dust (2006) and Cassandra`s Dream (2007) but he got his next major hit in 2008 as he starred in the Anglo-American black comedy film titled In Burges. The film directed by Martin McDonagh was showcased at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and over the years, it gained a cult status for its dark humor and dialogues. Colin Farrell had a busy year in 2009 as he starred in four films starting with Ondine which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and upon its theatrical release, it garnered wide critical appreciation.

In 2011, he was a part of American black comedy film, Horrible Bosses. The film not only won positive critic reviews but also won Farrell a nomination at the Satellite Award for Best Supporting Actor - Motion Picture and MTV Movie Award for Best Villain.

Farrell`s next major hit came in 2015 as he starred The Lobster, which was selected to compete for the Palme d`Or at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival and won the Jury Prize. The film also won several other laurels including nominations at the British Academy Film Awards for Outstanding British Film and Queer Palm Award at the Cannes Film Festival. Farrell`s 2016 release includes Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. His other films include Dumbo (2019), Ava (2020), Voyagers (2021) and The Batman (2022).

TV Career
Apart from acting in several award-winning films, Collin Farrell has also made his mark in the TV industry. The actor started acting in TV series with Ballykissangel, a BBC drama. He has also featured in four episodes of an Irish romantic drama TV film, Falling For a Dancer. The film was aired on BBC One in for 50-minute episodes. After 1998, Farrell had shifted his focus to acting in films and he did only a couple of episodes in TV series` like Doggy Fizzle Televizzle (2003), Saturday Night Live (2004) where he appeared as a host in a single episode and Scrubs (2005). After a break of a decade, the actor made his comeback to TV with an American crime anthology crime drama series named True Detective.
