Three-time Emmy Award winner and Academy Award nominee Laurie Metcalf`s artistic career spans over four decades, and across stage, television and cinema. She is perhaps best known for her portrayal of the neurotic Jackie Harris in the popular 90s sitcom Roseanne (1988-1997), which earned her three back-to-back Emmy Awards between 1992 and 1994.

Metcalf started out in theatre in the 1970s, and has continued to be active on stage throughout her career despite enjoying considerable success on film and television. She has also received multiple Tony Award nominations, winning one for her performance in A Doll`s House, Part 2 (2017); and three Obie Awards for her work Off-Broadway. The actress` feature film debut came with an uncredited role in the comedy A Wedding (1978), and she has since appeared in several films, notable among which are the comedy-drama Desperately Seeking Susan (1985), the comedy Uncle Buck (1989), Scream 2 (1997) and her voice role in the Toy Story film series (1995-2019). Significant acting credits on television include Monk, the medical drama Grey`s Anatomy, the comedy-drama Desperate Housewives and the sitcom The Big Bang Theory.

In 2017, Metcalf essayed the role of a mother who has a hard time dealing with her rebellious teenage daughter in Greta Gerwig`s coming-of-age comedy-drama Lady Bird. Her performance, which has been hailed in all circles as her career-best, earned Metcalf nominations at the Academy Awards, Golden Globes, BAFTA and SAG Awards that year. Despite the upward trajectory her Hollywood career has taken, Metcalf maintains that her favourite acting medium is theatre, and among her most recent stage outings is Edward Albee`s Three Tall Women.
