A former Olympian, a powerlifter and professional wrestler, Mark Henry is a popular face in the WWE
(World Wrestling Entertainment) business. The three-time U.S National Weightlifting Champion and a
two-time Olympic Festival Champion joined WWE in 1996 and he has held all major championships
including WWF European Championship, ECW Championship, and World Heavyweight Championship.
Apart from his tremendous achievements in sports, Henry has also worked in several Hollywood films
like
MacGruber (2010),
A Haunted House 2 (2014) and
Incarnate (2016).
Early Life
Born in Silsbee, Texas, Mark Henry was a huge fan of wrestling and Andre the Giant right from
childhood. When he was just 12-years old, his father, Ernest passed away due to complications from
diabetes and Henry was raised alone by his mother. Henry has one elder brother named Pat. Kevin
Henry, a former defensive player at Pittsburgh Steelers is his cousin. A strongly built man himself, Henry
comes from a family where most of the men are larger than average size. His uncle Chudd who weighed
about 500 lbs was known as the strongest man in Piney Woods, East Texas.
When he was 14, he was diagnosed with dyslexia. Although he was weak in studies, he more than made
up for it with his passion for sports. While in high school, Henry played football but during his senior
year he sustained an injury to his wrist and he had to be dropped from the team.
Personal Life
Mark Henry is married to Jana and the couple has a daughter named Joanna.
Movie Career
Mark Henry made his acting debut with the American action comedy film, MacGruber in 2010. The film
directed by
Jorma Taccone was based on the Saturday Night Live sketch of the same name. The film,
which featured an ensemble cast including
Will Forte,
Kristen Wiig, Ryan Phillipe,
Maya Rudolph and
Val Kilmer received mixed critical reviews but over the years it has been labeled as a cult classic. After
his debut film, Mark Henry focused on his career in WWE and he had no releases until 2014 when
director
Michael Tiddes cast him alongside
Marlon Wayans,
Jaime Pressly,
Essence Atkins and
Gabriel
Iglesias in his American horror comedy film
A Haunted House 2. Although the film received negative
critical reviews, it performed well at the box office grossing more than 23 million USD.
In 2015, Henry featured as a voice artist in the American direct-to- video animation film The Flintstones
& WWE: Stone Age SamckDown! Directed by Spike Brandt and Tony Cervone. The film received mixed
reviews and it failed commercially too. In his solitary film appearance in 2016, Henry starred in the
American supernatural horror film, Incarnate featuring
Aaron Eckhart,
Carice van Houten,
Catalina
Sandino Moreno and
Matt Nable in the lead roles. The film received generally negative reviews but it
performed decently at the box office.
