Steven Zaillian is an Armenian-American screenwriter, director, film editor, and a producer. He started out as an editor but didn`t find the work challenging enough and moved to screenwriting. He rose to prominence quickly, working with directors the likes of
Steven Speilberg and
David Fincher. Zaillian claims he grew up with news always in the house since his father was a journalist, which is probably why he is drawn to adaptations of true stories.
Zaillian is best known for his work in movies like
Schindler`s List(1993),
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011), Mission: Impossible (1996) and
American Gangster (2007). He has won an Academy Award, Golden Globe Award and a BAFTA Award for his great work in Schindler`s List (1993) and the Boston Society of Film Critics Award and Critics` Choice Movie Award for
Moneyball (2011). His 2019 works include The Irishman (as a writer) and
The Current War (as an executive producer).
