Geetanjali Thapa

The winner of National Film Award for Best Actress, Geetanjali Thapa is an Indian film actress and model who is best known for her performance in the Hindi road drama, Liar`s Dice (2013), which won the special jury award at the Sofia International Film Festival where it won the special jury award. The actress who made her feature film debut with Tina Ki Chaabi (2009) has appeared in several acclaimed films like I.D. (2012), That Day After Every Day (2013) and Tigers (2016).

Early Life
Born and raised in Gangtok, Sikkim, Geetanjali, completed her schooling in Sikkim and later moved to Kolkata to pursue her graduation. Before entering the film industry, Geetanjali was a professional model and is the winner of the Mega Miss North East beauty pageant, which was held in Guwahati, Assam in 2007.

Movie Career
Geetanjali was still in school when she made her acting debut with the short film, Myth (2006), an English-language project directed by Prashant Rasaily. Three years later, Geetanjali made her feature film debut with Tina Ki Chaabi (2009), a Hindi-language comedy film directed by Amit Saxena and co-starring Ranvir Shorey and Farida Jalal. With her debut film failing to get her any recognition, she next starred in the internationally acclaimed film, I.D. (2012). The film directed by Kamal K.M. premiered at the Busan International Film Festival and subsequently was selected to be showcased at the Los Angeles Film Festival 2013 where Geetanjali won the Best Performance Award and the Best Actress Award at the ImagineIndia Award Madrid, 2013.

In 2013, the actress starred in the Hindi neo-noir thriller Monsoon Shootout alongside Nawazuddin Siddiqui andTannishtha Chatterjee. The film, which was showcased at the Cannes Film Festival in the Midnight Screenings section released in the theaters in January 2016. The film received wide critical praise at the festival with Peter Bradshaw from The Guardian stating, "it is a brash exploitation picture, a violent thriller on the tough streets of Mumbai about rule-breaking, and bone-breaking cops." The same year, the actress collaborated with the stalwart director Anurag Kashyap for the Hindi short film That Day After Everyday. The film, which deals with the subject of eve teasing revolves the lives of three women who face adversities and come triumphant. It also featuredSandhya Mridul, Aranya Kaur and Radhika Apte.

Geetanjali Thapa`s biggest hit of her career came in 2014 as she starred in the Hindi road drama film, Liar`s Dice which was written and directed by Geetu Mohandas. The film co-starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui deals with the issue of migrant laborers and their exploitation. Upon release, it received wide critical acclaim and Geetanjali for her stellar performance in the film won her maiden National Film Award for Best Actress.

In her solitary release of 2016, the actress starred in Tigers where she shared the screen with Emraan Hashmi, Khalid Abdalla, and Supriya Pathak. The film, which was screen at the Toronto International Film Festival was based on a real-life story of a salesman who discovers the harsh truth of the pharmaceutical industry in Pakistan. Her 2017 release includes Trapped directed by Vikramaditya Motwane. The film, which had its premiered at the Mumbai Film Festival in October 2016, released in theaters in March 2017.
