One of the most talented and multi-faceted actors in Bollywood, Ranvir Shorey is best known for playing strong supporting roles in Hindi films. Ranvir who started his career in the entertainment industry as a VJ and TV host made his debut in the film industry with Ek Chhotisi Love Story (2002). The actor who is known to share a close friendship with noted theater actors and director in Bollywood Vinay Pathak and Rajat Kapoor has been part of several commercially successful and critically hit films like Lakshya (2004), Mixed Doubles (2006), Khosla Ka Ghosla (2006), Bheja Fry (2007), and Mithya (2008).

Early Life
Born in Jalandhar, Punjab, Ranvir Shorey is the eldest son of K.D. Shorey, a former Bollywood producer; he has a younger brother named Lokesh Shorey. The actor completed his schooling from Dayanand Sr. Secondary School. Before foraying in the film industry, Ranvir worked as a VJ on Channel V. His maiden appearance on the screen was with the TV show House Arrest where he was the presenter. His claim to fame, however, was his association with the popular comedy show titled The Great Indian Comedy Show (2004-2007), which was broadcast on Star One.

Personal Life
Ranvir Shorey married his longtime girlfriend, the Bollywood actress Konkona Sen Sharma in September 2010 and together the couple has a song named Haroon Shorey who was born in March 2011. The marriage, however, did not last long and after sharing a blissful marriage for five years, the duo separated in 2015.

TV Career
Ranvir Shorey started his career in the entertainment business as the presenter of popular TV show House Arrest (1998), which was aired on Channel V. The VJ-turned-actor during his association with the channel also hosted TV series likes Saba (1999) and Chat Room (2000). Whilst his stint as a VJ did not earn him much recognition, he rose to fame with his association with The Great Indian Comedy Show (2004-07); his various comedic roles made him a household name. His other popular show was the Hindi talk show Ranvir Vinay Aur Kaun? (2007) where he hosted the show along with his close friend and fellow Bollywood actor Vinay Pathak. In 2014, the actor participated in the fifth season of stunt reality show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi Darr Ka Blockbuster.

Movie Career
Ranvir Shorey had a rather subdued start to his career, he made his debut on the silver screen with a small role in the romantic film Ek Chotisi Love Story (2002) directed by Shashilal K. Nair. The film starring Manisha Koirala and Aditya Seal released amidst much controversy for its subject where a 15-years old teenager falls in love with an older woman and it generated a strong response at the box office. Following his debut film, the actor continued to play smaller supporting roles in various films like Jism (2003), Lakshya (2004), and Hum Dum (2005).

The year 2006 proved to be a fruitful year for Ranvir as he finally got noticed and recognition for his role in the Hindi comedy-drama Khosla Ka Ghosla, which was directed by the debutant director Dibakar Banerjee. The film, which featured an ensemble cast including Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Parvin Dabas, and Vinay Pathak won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi also performed well at the box office. Following its huge success in Hindi, the film was later remade in Tamil is Poi Solla Porom starring Karthik Kumar, Pia Bajpai, Nassar and Nedumudi Venu. His next major hit came in 2007 as he collaborated with his close friends Vinay Pathak and Rajat Kapoor in the comedy Hindi film Bheja Fry. The film, which is the first installment in the Bheja Fry trilogy received mostly favorable critical reviews and performed well at the box office.

Ranvir followed his success with Bheja Fry with yet another critically acclaimed film Mithya (2008), which was written and directed by Rajat Kapoor. The film co-starring Neha Dhupia, Naseeruddin Shah, and Vinay Pathak was screened at the 9th Osian`s Cinefan Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema and was also screened at the Cannes Film Festival. The same year, he appeared mostly in supporting roles in Singh is Kinng, Ugly Aur Pagli and Fashion.

By 2009, Ranvir came to be noticed for his brilliant comic acts and he continued to portray comic roles in Chandni Chowk to China (2009), an Indian martial arts action comedy film directed by Nikhil Advani. The film, which was loosely based on the Hollywood film Kung Fu Hustle was panned by the critics and it failed miserably at the box office. Later in the year, the actor collaborated with the comedy kingpin David Dhawan for Do Knot Disturb, which was the remake of the French film The Valet. The film starring Govinda, Sushmita Sen, Lara Dutta and Ritesh Deshmukh received mostly positive reviews but failed to make an impact at the box office.

In 2010, the actor deviated from comedy and starred in the Indian crime, black comedy film The Film Emotional Atyachar, which was directed by Akshay Shere. The film co-starring Vinay Pathak, Ravi Kishan, Kalki Koechlin and Mohit Ahlawat received mostly negative reviews and failed to rake in enough money at the box office. Over the next few years, the actor starred in films like Bajatey Raho (2013), Happy Ending (2014), Titli (2015), and Moh Maya Money (2016), Death in the Gunj (2017) and Sonchiriya (2019). His 2020 releases include Angrezi Medium, where he stars alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan and Irrfan Khan and Lootcase.
