Keerthy Suresh is an Indian film actress who primarily works in the Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu film industry. She is the daughter of actress Menaka and producer Suresh Kumar. After making her debut as a child actress, Keerthy played her first lead role in the Malayalam movie Geethanjali that released in 2013.
Early Life
Born to the film producer Suresh Kumar and actress Menaka, Keerthy has an elder sister, Revathy, who also works in the entertainment industry as a VFX specialist. The actress first did her schooling at Chennai and later from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Pattom, Thiruvananthapuram. Later, Keerthy completed her degree in Fashion Design from the Pearl Academy in Chennai. She also completed a two-month internship in London and then as a part of the student exchange program she went to Scotland for four months.
Movie Career
Keerthy began her acting career as a child actress by appearing in several films produced by her father in early 2000s. She was seen in movies such as Pilots (2000), Achaneyanenikkishtam (2001), and Kureban (2002). Her last movie as a child actress was Kureban and then she made her comeback in the film industry a decade later. In 2013, Keerthy appeared in her first lead role in Priyadarshan`s Malayalam horror comedy, Geethanjali. The actress was still studying when she was offered the role and she shot for the movie during her semester break. Portraying a double role in the movie, Keerthy received mixed reviews from the critics with Rediff quoting that: "she has got a plum role but whether she impresses with her acting prowess is another matter." However, she bagged the 2014 South Indian International Movie Award for Best Female Debutant and the Asianet Film Award for Best New Face of the Year for her performance in Geethaanjali
Keerthy was next seen in the Malayalam movie Ring Master (2014) directed by the Rafi-Mecartin duo. Portraying the role of a blind girl, Keerthy was cast opposite the popular Malayalam actor, Dileep. The film received positive reviews from the critics. Soon Keerthy made her Tamil film debut with A.L. Vijay`s romantic comedy movie Idhu Enna Maayum (2015) alongside Vikram. The film, however, failed to make an impression at the box office. The actress was soon flooded with many offers to a point when she had to drop out of a couple of films that she had already started working on in order to accommodate bigger projects. Eventually, she opted out of Maane Thaene Paeye directed by Krishna and Kavalai Vendam directed by Deekay.
In 2016, Keerthy appeared in the Tamil movie, Rajini Murugan, a comedy drama, opposite Sivakarthikeyan. The movie opened to mixed reviews at the box office. Later in the year, Keerthy collaborated with director Prabhu Solomon for the railroad disaster thriller Thodari. The film co-starring Dhanush was panned by the critics for its poor screenplay and the long runtime, however, Keerthy and Dhanush`s performance in the movie was much appreciated. The actress rounded of the year with the romantic comedy drama Remo directed by R.D. Raja. The film also featuring Sivakarthikeyan, Satish and Saranya Ponvannan in important roles was an average earner at the box office.
In her first release of 2017, the actress was cast alongside the Ilayathalapathy Vijay, Jagapati Babu and Daniel Balaji in the Tamil action film Bairavaa. The film, which is based on the life of a young and righteous bank collection agent (played by Vijay) and how he uses violent means to recover money from the debtors was declared at the box office. Her other releases of the year includes Nenu Local, a Telugu romantic comedy directed by Trinadha Rao Nakkina and Thaanaa Serndha Koottam, an action-thriller directed by Vignesh Shivan. Her 2018 release includes Sarkar.
