Orlando Jonathan Blanchard Bloom (1977 till present) is an English actor, producer, theatre artist and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. He has appeared in various epic fantasy, historical epic, and fantasy adventure films. His role as Legolas in the The Lord of the Rings Trilogy rose him to prominence. Directed by Peter Jackson and based on the book of J.R.R. Tolkien, Orlando’s character is an elf, an unrivalled archer and a dangerous warrior in the movie. In Pirates of the Caribbean series, his character as Will Turner is a blacksmith's apprentice who fights with Jack Sparrow, the notorious pirate dauntlessly. In 2004 American epic adventure war film, Troy directed by Wolfgang Petersen, Orlando was seen as Paris, the son of the king of Troy. In the successive year (2005), he played the role of Balian of Ibelin, an important noble in the Kingdom of Heaven directed by Ridley Scott. Bloom had also played a brief role in Ridley Scott’s, Black Hawk Dawn. In the same year, he was seen as a leading man in Elizabethtown, a romantic tragicomedy directed by Cameron Crowe. Bloom’s character as Drew Baylor is an intelligent young man and designer for a shoe company. In 2008, he was seen as David Cooler in ensemble film, New York, I Love You. In another ensemble film, Main Street (2010), he played the role of Harris Parker. In 2011, he was seen as Duke of Buckingham in The Three Musketeers directed by Paul W. S. Anderson.

Bloom was also named as ‘People's hottest Hollywood Bachelor’. Moreover, he is also a theatre artist. He made his stage debut with the play, In Celebration (1969) by English writer, David Storey at the Duke of York's Theatre in London in 2007. Also, he starred in a Broadway adaptation of Romeo and Juliet in 2013.

Early life
In 1977 in Canterbury, Kent, United Kingdom, Bloom was born to Colin Stone and Sonia Constance Josephine. Until Bloom turned 13 years old, he mistook Harry Saul Bloom as his biological father, who was his mother’s husband. After he died, Colin Stone turned Bloom's legal guardian. He also has an elder sister, Samantha Bloom. Raised in the Church of England, Bloom attended St Peter's Methodist Primary School. Later he studied at King's School and St Edmund's School in Canterbury. As a teen, Bloom was a clay trapper at a pigeon shooting range. But, he enjoyed arts, pottery, photography and sculpturing. While he was intrigued by poetry and prose, he started giving readings at Kent Festival.

Bloom was also battling with dyslexia and thus, he was encouraged to take art and drama classes. Later, he pursued a two-year A Level course in Drama, Photography and Sculpture at Fine Arts College, Hampstead. Later, he joined the National Youth Theatre and owing to his scholarship, he was trained at the British American Drama Academy. Before foraying in films, Bloom was seen on television in episodes of Casualty and Midsomer Murders. Finally, he made his debut film, Wilde (1997). Thereafter, Bloom decided to study acting professionally and hence joined Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.

Personal Life
Bloom is a practicing Buddhist under Soka Gakkai International. Bloom had an on and off relationship with American actress, Kate Bosworth from 2003- 2006. Later, he married Australian supermodel, Miranda Kerr. She gave birth to his son in 2011 and in 2013 Bloom separated from his wife.

Movie Career
Before foraying in films, Bloom was seen on television and played a brief role in his debut film, Wilde (1997), based on autobiography of Irish playwright, novelist, essayist, and poet, Oscar Wilde. He notched the major role of Legolas in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy (2001–2003) after graduating from Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. The series of high fantasy adventure films: The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Directed by Peter Robert Jackson, the series made Legolas a household name. The films were the highest grossing series of all time. In 2002, Bloom clinched MTV Movie Award for "Breakthrough Male" and also Empire Awards for "Best Debut". Also, he was nominated with the entire The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) cast for "Best Ensemble Acting" at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Owing to his incredible role and success of the movie, Bloom also won other awards such as European Film Awards, Hollywood Festival Award, Empire Awards and Teen Choice Awards. He was selected as one of the Teen People "25 Hottest Stars Under 25".

After The Lord of the Rings trilogy, he played a brief role as PFC Todd Blackburn in Ridley Scott’s, Black Hawk Down. In 2003, he starred in the blockbuster, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. In the same year, he was also seen in Ned Kelly as Joseph Byrne. In 2004, Bloom gave another blockbuster, Troy, starring as Paris who started the Trojan War. Also, in the same year, he was seen in the movie, Calcium Kid. Later, he was seen in major role both in Kingdom of Heaven directed by Ridley Scott and Elizabethtown directed by Cameron Crowe's. He was suggested in the Worst Supporting Actor category for Troy (2004) and Worst Actor category for his films Elizabethtown (2005) and Kingdom of Heaven (2005). Later, he starred in sequel, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006) and in the independently made Haven. In 2006, he also appeared as a cameo in Love and other Disasters as Hollywood Paolo and in American documentary, The Armenian Genocide as Auguste Berneau. In 2007, Bloom was seen in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. By 2007, Bloom notched four of the top 15 highest-grossing films of all time and was the most searched male on Google News. Also, in the same year, he was narrator for documentary, Everest: A Climb for Peace. Bloom always had penchant towards theatre and thus he decided to go back to stage plays.

In 2009, he was seen in ensemble films such as New York, I Love You and Main Street (2010). In 2011, he was seen successively in three movies. In the movie, Good Doctor, he played the role of Dr. Martin. E. Blake and in the short film, Fight for Your Right Revisited he was seen as Johnny Ryall. But his The Three Musketeers directed by Paul W. S. Anderson was a remarkable one comparatively in which he was seen as ‘Duke of Buckingham’. In 2013, he was again seen in three movies consecutively. Zulu, The Bling Ring and one of the Hobbit trilogy. Bloom reprised his role as Legolas in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013) and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014). Both the movies performed fairly well at the box office. However, in 2015, Bloom was just seen in one movie, Digging for Fire. It is an American comedy-drama film directed by Joe Swanberg.

In 2016, he was seen in TV Series, Easy, as Tom.
