After dropping out of college to pursue his acting career full-time, Downey Jr. acted in musicals and had a brief, unsuccessful stint on the TV show Saturday Night Live. However, his career growth was stunted by his notorious drug problems, which escalated between 1996 and 2001, during which Downey Jr. served several prison sentences and made numerous visits to rehab centers. He was even fired off the sets of movies and TV shows due to his uncontrollable drug addiction.
