Born to Daniel John Caruso and Lorraine Zullo in Connecticut, Caruso completed his schooling, in 1983, from Norwalk High School and graduated from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California.

In 1991, Caruso tied the knot with Holly Kuespert, an actress and together they have five children, namely, Brandon, Daniel, Sophia, Charlie, and Sally.
