National Award-winning director and screenplay writer, Sachin Kundalkar is known to be a part of the Marathi film industry, making his debut in 2006 with the Sonali Kulkarni-starrer Restaurant. With a keen interest in filmmaking, Sachin approached director Ashutosh Gowarikar for guidance while he was still studying. The director, however, asked him to return only after completing his education. In 1995, the young Sachin assisted Sumitra Bhave and Sunil Sukthankar in their first film together Doghi, which went on to garner massive critical acclaim.

He then went on to assist with movies such as Zindagi Zindabad, Bhaais Barabar, and Dahavi Fa and simultaneously obtained his bachelor`s degree in commerce. Upon graduating, he enrolled himself at the FTTI, Pune, following which he received a scholarship from the French Government, which is when he attended La Femis in Paris. Before making his foray into the film industry, he directed short plays and was also actively associated with theatre.

He then made his debut in 2006 with the movie Restaurant that screened at several film festivals and received praise from critics. His next directorial venture Nirop, which also marked his debut as a writer, went on to win the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Marathi and was extremely well-received by the audience and critics alike. Among his other credits are Gandha, Aiyya, Happy Journey, Rajwade and Sons, Vazandar, and Gulabjaam.
