A daring young man, Senguttvuan in his quest to pay off his debts becomes a smuggler and soon finds himself in a life-threating situation. The only way to save himself is to rob Maragatha Naanayam, a precious emerald artefact. Debutant director Saravanans Maragatha Naanayam is a laugh-out-loud horror comedy with a terrific fantasy twist, which pays off handsomely. In an industry where horror-comedies have become repetitive and boring, its a relief to see a film that proves that its still possible to make a film in this genre that feels fresh and at the same time is largely entertaining. About an hour into debutant director ARK Saravanans Maragatha Naanayam, we begin to wonder why there is no massy introduction to the hero with a song or a duet between the leading couple in some picturesque foreign location or punchlines that Aadhi could deliver. And its so refreshing. He cuts right to the chase and sticks to the script from the beginning till the end. Maragadha Naanayam is the hunt for a precious stone that cannot be attained or possessed by anybody as it has a history attached to it.
